The job is half digital [website design, banners, facebook] and half design [presentations, reports, identity development].  

LOGISTICS

Based in our New York office, this position is a direct report to the global head of creative, also based in New York. You will be expected to work with designers in our other offices and share projects, ideas, responsibilities... and secrets if you want.

The job is cool because you get to work on all sorts of projects that directly influence the world around you for positive change. There is a lot of autonomy and potential to strut your stuff for inititatives you believe in. Changing the world is tough, so the ability to handle multiple projects across a variety mediums, budget time and deliver on every deadline is a must; your boss works hard and will expect you to do the same.

We’re looking for a communications-savvy Account Executive who is passionate about making social change and can work in a fast-paced, creative environment. We are: A pioneering social impact communications firm with 30 years of experience working on some of the country’s most important social change and social justice movements. Fenton’s past and present clients include the Campaign for Black Male Achievement, MoveOn.org, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Save the Redwoods League, MacArthur Foundation, the Human Rights Campaign, and Center for Youth Wellness. Fenton has 80 staff across five offices in San Francisco, New York, London, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC. Account Executives support their account teams, run parts of larger accounts and occasionally lead on smaller accounts. This position is based in San Francisco. You are:

The AE has 3-4 years of experience in project support, research, media relations and social media campaigns. We have a preference for candidates with agency backgrounds. The AE’s primary role is to help develop and execute online and offline communications tactics. Essential duties include but are not limited to:
  • Monitoring news media and social media; compiling summaries of coverage and conversations
  • Pitching all levels of reporters, editors, producers, bloggers
  • Overseeing production of media lists
  • Organizing logistics and staffing press conferences and other events
  • Writing press releases, advisories, pitch memos, fact sheets, op-eds and Web content
  • Utilizing common Web tools to help build out and engage audiences in online campaigns; to develop benchmarks to analyze online statistics; and to conduct communications audits
  • Managing social media implementation and community management
  • Conducting research on client-related issues,  online communities, media markets and new business prospects
  • Laying out PowerPoint presentations
  • Proofreading/copyediting documents
  • Delegating tasks where appropriate
  • Supporting the creation of work plans for accounts

Essential Qualifications:  
  • 3-4 years of experience in public interest or public affairs communications, or online organizing/advocacy
  • Experience with standards, principles and techniques of public relations and online engagement
  • Creative thinker and savvy problem solver
  • Familiarity with print and electronic news media and a growing base of reporter contacts
  • Demonstrated ability to pitch clients to the media and secure placements
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in written format, with varying levels of company staff, clients, vendors and media
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to juggle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • Base knowledge in more than one of Fenton’s core issue areas
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Internet research

Fenton is a leading public-interest communications firm with offices in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., New York, Los Angeles, and London. At Fenton we develop and execute strategic communications campaigns on political, environmental, public health, education and social justice issues. We also provide media relations, branding, communications planning and digital media services to our nonprofit and foundation clients. This is an excellent chance to learn the ropes of public interest communications for an undergraduate or recent college grad. Interns support a variety of accounts, but candidates that have communications experience and show passion for working with diverse communities are of particular interest. Interns are responsible for coordinating various administrative, media and research aspects for assigned clients.
