Fenton has 65 staff in four offices in New York, Los Angeles, Washington and San Francisco.

Fenton is seeking an Account Director for Digital Services in its Washington office to develop, market and execute strategic online and social media communications campaigns. The Account Director is responsible for developing, executing and budgeting for profitability on assigned accounts, as well as the supervision of staff servicing those accounts. We are looking for candidates with strong backgrounds in online advocacy and community building as well as agency or non-profit experience. Fenton believes there is no one-size-fits-all approach to social media and more is gained by listening to the existing conversation before launching a campaign. The right candidate will share this philosophy and be able to show evidence of this approach in past work.

Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Helping clients develop and execute digital strategies that range from web site development to creating videos to launching social media campaigns.
  • Helping potential clients understand Fenton’s ability to help them shape and execute smart digital communications programs as part of broader communications strategies.
  • Managing social media monitoring, research, strategy, execution and reporting of communications campaigns for multiple clients
  • Assisting in building internal social media capacity of Fenton staff
  • Ensuring that social media strategies are integrated with overall branding, messaging, earned media and other aspects of client campaigns and aligned with broader campaign goals
  • Building clients’ capacity to manage their own social media properties
  • Providing strategic guidance and day-to-day supervision for assigned client accounts, including junior staff supervision, oversight of work product quality and budget management
  • Writing contracts, proposals, strategy memos, and reports
  • Pitching prospective clients, funders and other potential partners or allies
  • Developing new accounts and campaigns with clients and funders
  • Ongoing networking to grow Fenton’s social media practice
  • Managing client budgets for profitability; anticipating potential problems
  • Providing budget projections for weekly financial meetings
  • Meeting or exceeding 30 billable hours per week
  • Developing professional development plan with junior staff
  • Delegating appropriate tasks to junior staff in a clear and collaborative manner
  • Attending staff meetings and providing input on organizational goals/growth and business improvement, including client service, staff development, and office procedures
  • Pursuing professional development plan developed in conjunction with supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Seven-plus years of experience in public interest advocacy, or demonstrated equivalent experience, with preference for experience at a firm
  • Extensive knowledge of social media platforms/tools, and successful online advocacy campaigns that maximize them
  • Excellent news sense and political savvy
  • Experience managing project budgets
  • Experience mentoring or managing staff
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client accounts and to design long-term creative communications campaigns
  • Experience developing network of business and political contacts
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Lexis-Nexis, as well as internet research skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks under tight deadlines and meet schedules and assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in written format
  • Ability to interact and perform in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness and flexibility in approach to project assignments
