Jessica Nusbaum leads communications and media strategy, messaging and branding projects in a variety of issue areas, including education, the environment, civic engagement, and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights. She managed media relations around the California Supreme Court’s decision in favor of marriage for same-sex couples and worked as a lead communications consultant for Rev. Janet Edwards, a Presbyterian minister who was put on trial by her church for officiating at the wedding of a lesbian couple.
She has secured media coverage in leading outlets such as USA Today, TIME, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and Associated Press for clients including The Education Trust-West, Public Policy Institute of California and Civic Ventures.
Nusbaum also helped develop messaging and brand strategy for organizations including the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Coalition for Clean Air and Advancement Project Los Angeles. For The California Wellness Foundation, she led the development of HealthJobsStartHere.com, an online tool for young job-seekers that has attracted over half a million visitors so far. Prior to Fenton, Nusbaum directed the Bay Area Earth Day Coalition, coordinating the efforts of 65 local organizations and managing regional publicity and media outreach.
