Susan McPherson Promoted to Director of Global Marketing at Fenton

Fenton has promoted Susan McPherson to its first director of global marketing.

New Ambassador for the Republic of Ecuador

Ending a nine-month hiatus in ambassadorial relations, Ecuador’s new ambassador to the United States, Nathalie Cely, presented her credentials to the White House and promised to work to strengthen bilateral relations with the Obama Administration.  The meeting came shortly after the Mexico-based international polling firm, Consulta Mitofski ranked Ecuador’s President Correa among the most popular leaders in the hemisphere.  Fenton has worked with the Republic of Ecuador on a wide range of projects since 2007.  Senate Republicans so far have blocked the confirmation of a new U.S. ambassador to Quito.

Assembles Global Network of Social Impact Firms

Fenton has opened its first international office in London at 7 Cavendish Square and has hired Alison Lucas as its Director.

The 30-year-old social impact communications firm’s London office will focus on UK, European and global public health, energy, environment, philanthropic and corporate responsibility clients.

Alison Lucas will serve as Director of the London office. She was most recently Co-Founder of The Climate Group, which works with governments, brands and public figures across Asia, Europe and North America pushing for the policies, technologies and investment needed for a low-carbon economy.

Lucas previously ran an environmental communications consultancy and was Director of Communications for the World Wildlife Fund’s International Forests Campaign, where she helped create the Forest Stewardship Council certification program. Read More »

Over the past 25 years those working in the field of violence prevention have brought about a major paradigm shift from an assumption that violence is inevitable to the recognition that violence is preventable, through the application of evidence-based programs to prevent specific types of violence. But neither the paradigm shift nor the specific programs have spread to low- and middle-income countries. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) will convene a 2-day workshop to explore gaps in the four areas of knowledge management (knowledge generation, integration, dissemination, and application) and how closing these gaps might accelerate violence prevention in low- and middle-income countries.

Americans Say Giving to Charity Is a Holiday Priority

Nearly seven out of 10 Americans say it’s important to give to charity this holiday season, a 10-percentage point jump from a similar poll conducted last year by the American Red Cross. But only 57 percent actually plan to give between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, the same percentage as in 2010.

As donors get ready to face the fourth holiday season of a sluggish economy, 72 percent of people who plan to give say they will donate the same as or more than last year, which is the same percentage as in the 2010 poll. A majority of those who do give plan to donate between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Read More »
