New study shows 89% of non-profits are using some form of social media, outpacing business.

June 22, 2009

Nonprofit organizations have long been labeled Luddites when it comes to adopting new technology.

But a forthcoming study by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Marketing Research shows nonprofit groups are actually well ahead of businesses in their use of social-media tools such as Twitter, Facebook, and blogs.

The soon-to-be-released study found that 89 percent of nonprofit organizations are using some form of social media, reports the Herald News in Fall River, Mass. Fifty-seven percent reported that they use blogs.

"Social media is an important part of the marketing strategy for U.S. charities and nonprofits. They are outpacing businesses and even academic institutions in their familiarity, use and monitoring activity," Nora Ganim Barnes told the newspaper. "These organizations have found a new and exciting way to win the hearts, and maybe the dollars, of potential donors."

Did That Conference Call Just Take Years Off Your Life?

June 11, 2009

The workplace is all about cutting costs and working smarter--which is even more true in the current economic climate. We think teleconferences, videoconferences, and webinars will do the trick in place of face-to-face meetings. But what's getting lost in translation? Why are some tele-meetings so painful? What can we do about it?

These are the questions by our good friend and communications guru Andy Goodman and his team at The Goodman Center in their latest report, "Dialing In, Logging On, Nodding Off: The True Costs of Teleconferences, Videoconferences and Webinars."

You can download it for free at www.thegoodmancenter.com.

The report, the result of surveys with 1,200 public interest professionals from across the US and Canada, is a brisk read with the powerful reminder that, "Meetings are meetings, no matter what kind. If you don't know how to run a good meeting in person, adding the prefix tele- isn't going to help you."

The good news is, The Goodman Center does offer help. Check out the resources at the end of the report!.
