Hart has worked in issue-based communications for more than 20 years. She manages Fenton’s health practice, guides non-profit branding work and develops campaigns for clients including The California Wellness Foundation – focusing on growing and diversifying the state’s health care workforce – and Indiana Tobacco Prevention & Cessation – driving public education to reduce the toll of deadly, addictive tobacco.

Prior to joining Fenton, Hart managed her own firm, worked for a global communications company and held posts in government and non-profit organizations. Her work with the American Legacy Foundation and state and local health agencies has played a role in lowering youth smoking rates in reducing tobacco sales to minors – largely through the development of branded campaigns in which youth played a key role.

Hart’s experience also includes tackling environmental issues. She served as Florida’s environmental education director and developed campaigns that focused public attention on water quality and quantity, at-risk habitats and endangered species – including manatees, whales and adorable little sea turtles. She developed branded environmental citizenship campaigns, such as Florida: Your Back Yard to engage a wider cross section of the population and help them recognize the environmental and economic risks of not caring for their back yard.

Her crisis communications experience includes work with drinking water, oil spills, litigation and high-profile crimes. She has worked with online and traditional media outlets for stories with Today, The Washington Post, The New York Times, NPR, USA Today, Wired, regional news outlets and CNN – ranging from TV coverage to its popular Twitter feed. Hart has received recognition including SABRE and Women in Social Responsibility awards, and she earned a B.S. in journalism from the University of Florida. She speaks and conducts training at various national events and currently works with her alma mater to support its new program in public interest communications – the first in the world.
